Built for Waterloo
Built for Waterloo's Heavy Clay and Deep Frost
Waterloo's expansive clay soils create unique challenges for retaining wall construction. From Laurel Creek to the Grand River watershed, heavy clay retains water and expands dramatically during freeze-thaw cycles. With frost penetrating 1.2 to 1.5 metres deep, proper foundation design becomes critical for long-term structural integrity.
Many 1970s-era walls throughout Beechwood, Forest Heights, and Lakeshore are now showing stress fractures and lean. We work directly with the City of Waterloo Building Division to ensure compliance on all permitted projects. Older neighbourhoods near the university often struggle with poor lot drainage compounding clay soil issues.
